Summer must be on its way out, because in this week’s Reader there’s not a single guide to a music festival. Soon the fests of Labor Day weekend will be a distant memory and we’ll be huddling in our underheated apartments with subzero winds whipping past our leaky windows, stunned by the idea that someone could not only stand around outside without a dense layer of protective clothing but actually complain about how much time they’ve spent in the sun, and seriously, is there any music festival of any size that the Walkmen haven’t played?
That said, Photo Pit is hanging onto festival season with some snaps from the Mad Decent Block Party at the Hideout. Jessica Hopper sits down for a listening session with Sam Prekop, I talk to Epitonic cofounder Justin Sinkovich about the site’s unexpected rebirth, Gossip Wolf tells us what former Karate front man and newly minted Chicagoan Geoff Farina has been up to, and the List shouts out shows by Fruit Bats, Coliseum, Wye Oak, and more.
