This week’s Reader overfloweth with excellent music-related content. In Sharp Darts I review a few new local releases (including what has to be the strangest Numero Group record yet), Gossip Wolf talks Def Lep and David Yow, the Photo Pit goes to see Black Breath and Converge, Peter Margasak guides us through the first Chicago jazz festival presented by Portugal’s Clean Feed label, and the List previews shows by Local Natives, Plants and Animals, Torche, and more.

On top of all that, it’s our annual These Parts issue, for which the Reader expands its coverage outside Chicagoland. Robert Loerzel has a photo essay on the Daytrotter Barnstormer tour, where the Quad Cities recording group (formerly profiled in Sharp Darts) brings buzzy bands to unconventional spaces in towns most tours ignore.
