My downstairs neighbor likes to play current radio-pop hits on a pretty well amplified electronic piano. Local rapper King Louie likes to smoke a shitload of weed, at least judging by his videos. Normally there would be no reason to note these two facts side by side, except for the fact that the tape of my interview with Louie for my profile in this week’s Reader, which I conducted by phone at home, had a lot of meandering trains of thought on his side of the conversation and a lot of my neighbor working out the kinks in her cover of Katy Perry’s “Firework.” It was one of the more surreal experiences I’ve ever had transcribing an interview.
