When it comes to obscure musicians, Spotify’s service is a bit, um, spotty. That presented a bit of a challenge when I was putting together a playlist to accompany the story I wrote this week—it’s about a new compilation and DVD commemorating the final show at Logan Square DIY space Summer Camp, which hosted a diverse range of underground punk acts. Certain local powerviolence groups and foreign screamo bands, for instance, are nowhere to be found on Spotify. So I decided to make a mix of bands that have played in any DIY space around town in the past few years, not just Summer Camp; some of these shows I’m still kicking myself for missing, like Liturgy at the Mopery. So take a listen while you read about Summer Camp.
