• True Grit

This week we have a long review of True Grit, Joel and Ethan Coen’s adaptation of the classic western novel by Charles Portis. We also have a Critic’s Choice box for Rabbit Hole, a tragic drama with Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart that ought to suck the red off your candy cane. There are also new reviews of: All Good Things, the fiction debut of documentary filmmaker Andrew Jarecki (Capturing the Friedmans); Gulliver’s Travels, a live-action feature with Jack Black as the Jonathan Swift hero; Little Fockers, the latest comedy in the Meet the Parents franchise; Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, a Finnish horror movie about an extremely bad Santa; and Somewhere, the Sofia Coppola drama that took the Golden Lion at the Venice film festival.

Best bets for repertory? Well, you know: White Christmas. It’s a Wonderful Life. Ain’t nothing going on this week. Find yourself a Chinese restaurant and check back with me next Thursday.
