We’re kicking off Giving Tuesday early this year! Your donation today will be matched up to $10K, doubling your impact! If you donate $50 today, the Reader will receive $100.

The Reader is now a community-funded nonprofit newsroom. Can we count on your support to help keep us publishing?

I don’t have a lot of time to get into it, but I just have to say that J Dilla’s album Jay Stay Paid came out today–if you like hip-hop at all and you don’t have a copy in your hand or on your computer right now, you are wasting precious time. No, it’s not a Tupac-style posthumous hack job (Dilla’s mom and Pete Rock put it together); yes, it’s got raps (by Black Thought, Doom, and Lil Fame from M.O.P.); yes, it’s every bit as genius as Donuts. And yes, unfortunately that really is the album artwork and not some shitty mock-up by Christian Audigier.
