Mark Hollmann, the Tony-winning composer-lyricist of Urinetown: The Musical, will appear at a meet-the-artist forum at Theatre Building Chicago on Monday, March 23.

A University of Chicago graduate, Hollmann studied at TBC’s musical theater workshop as well as at Columbia College (where–full disclosure–he also accompanied singing classes that I taught). He was active in Chicago’s theater and improv scenes in the 1990s before heading to New York. His current projects include Yeast Nation: The Triumph of Life (co-written with his Urinetown collaborator, Greg Kotis, and set to debut next season at the American Theater Company) and The Girl, the Grouch, and the Goat (co-written with Reader theater critic Jack Helbig). According to a TBC press release, he’ll “speak about his inspirational journey as a writer of musical theater.”

Mon 3/23, 7 PM, Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont, 773-327-5252, TheatreBuildingChicago.org, free, but reservations are strongly encouraged.
