• Quarter Circle Seven Ranch

Last January when Quarter Circle 7 Ranch founder Frank Morgan suddenly passed away, a big swath of the city’s local-sustainable food industry wondered whether its supply of local, naturally raised beef was going away too. Morgan, who grew up in California cattle country, embarked on a career at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange while operating Q7 ranch in downstate Marengo. In 2005 he made the switch to an all-natural, fully pastured operation and his beef began appearing on restaurant menus and in retail operations all over the city.

Now local multimedia journalists and recent Medill grads Jim Dallke and Gloria Oh have followed up with a lovely elegiac mini documentary on Morgan’s widow’s, and sales director (and former Green City Market farm forager) Dave Rand’s efforts to keep the ranch going. Check it out after the jump.
