“Violet Eyes” is one of my favorite jams from My Gold Mask‘s new EP, A Thousand Voices (available for download and mail order here), mostly for its dark ‘n’ heavy melange of Siouxsie and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but also because of that little cowbell flourish, which just kills it. The band recently released a video for the tune, directed by frequent Reader contributor Jim Newberry, and it matches the song’s gothy vibe with dreamy lo-res black-and-white footage and a heaping dose of slow motion. The whole thing absolutely screams “late-80s/early-90s goth-band video,” and in my opinion that’s one of the best things a video can scream.
