From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Chicago native and current Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, citing the democratic model of his hometown on why he should run for a third term in 2009: “Richie Daley has been in there 20-plus years.”

It’ll actually be 20 next year–not that we’re counting.

That said, Nickels parts with our own green-politics-minded mayor on some environmental issues–Nickels is campaigning to “change habits”; Daley stresses collaboration and compromise–but they share a high regard for Valerie Jarrett and the idea of getting federal money for their cities:

“He was on a conference call to Barack Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett earlier this week, pushing a ‘Mayors’ Stimulus Package’ to the incoming administration and arguing that cities be treated as ‘economic engines’ rather than supplicants.”
