Every winter WHPK, the University of Chicago radio station, presents a cool program called Pictures and Sounds, which enlists experimental and noise musicians to create real-time original soundtracks to avant-garde films and videos. The program for this year’s installment, which is Sat 3/3, hasn’t been announced yet, but this week the station is launching another music-and-film effort with broader appeal, a series called Roxploitation: Subculture on Film. It runs every Thursday through March 8 at Doc Films, with screenings starting at between 9 and 9:45 PM. Roxploitation opens tomorrow night with the classic 1964 Richard Lester film with the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night.
