- New Holland
- New Holland Artisan Spirits & Brewing Co., coming to an event Thursday.
Between Bites is a new food-related storytelling series featuring local writers or personalities and benefiting a local cause—in this case Un86’d, which helps hospitality professionals with medical bills or other needs. The theme of the first event is Food Firsts; the writers reading will be Anthony Todd (Chicagoist), Ari Bendersky (Crain‘s), Chandra Ram (Plate), Heather Sperling (Tasting Table Chicago), Joe Campagna (Chicago Food Snob) and Kiki Luthringshausen (Beautyandherfeast.com). It’s at Two restaurant tonight and starts at 6:30 PM; tickets are $20 here and include appetizers and wine, plus a cash bar.
New Holland Artisan Spirits & Brewing Co., somewhat unique among area breweries in that it is also a distillery, will come in from New Holland, Michigan, Thursday to sample some of its wares at the Bar on Buena, 910 W. Buena, starting at 7 PM. Reps promise Beerhive Tripel Ale and Ichabod Pumpkin Ale on the suds side, Beer Barrel Bourbon and Hatter Royale hopped whiskey on the spirits side . . . and may bring some other mad scientist experiments along for tasting.
On Sunday BAMS, Breweries Against Multiple Sclerosis, will hold a fund-raiser at the Fountainhead featuring every local brewery you can think of, including 3 Floyds, Lagunitas, Begyle, Half Acre, Solemn Oath, Greenbush, Metropolitan, Revolution . . . OK, you can probably think of others, but there will be four firkins tapped, a silent auction, and other things to raise money for the cause. It starts at 11 AM.
Little Market Brasserie has been raising money for Meals on Wheels with its Melts for Meals campaign, featuring celebrity-designed grilled cheese sandwiches whose sale benefits the organization. You’ve got a few days left to try Chandra Ram’s (her again!) southern-style grilled cheese with bacon, pimento cheese, tomatoes, and arugula; then on October 1 it’s Sepia chef Andrew Zimmerman’s ham and gjetost grilled cheese for the rest of the month.
