Slight but pleasant, this 2010 French cartoon feature makes a virtue of its own simplicity: the 2-D animation emphasizes outlines and geometric shapes over depth and detail, and the story moves forward briskly and unfussily. A police detective and her little girl live next door to an ace cat burglar; they’re unaware of his criminal identity, but their pet cat knows the score and becomes his partner in crime. Eventually all four characters work together to nab the wicked gangster who killed the detective’s husband. This feels like a children’s book adaptation of a 50s noir programmer; if that doesn’t strike you as a bad idea, you’ll probably find this enjoyable. Jean-Loup Flicoli and Alain Gagnol directed.
