Shopping for a follow-up to Beckett, producer Hal Wallis hit upon this forgotten Maxwell Anderson play about the battle of wills between Henry VIII (Richard Burton) and Anne Boleyn (Genevieve Bujold). It’s about what you’d expect—slow, dry, fleetingly intelligent. Burton uses his magnificent voice but not much else, though Bujold has some surprisingly sharp, cunning moments. Charles Jarrott directed; with Irene Papas, Anthony Quayle, John Colicos, and Michael Hordern (1970).
