In the first scene of this indie feature, the protagonist (Anthony J. Baker) is injured during a tavern game of darts; in the second, his roommate (Danny Rhodes) gets a flat tire driving over a prankster’s bag of glass. “These things happen in threes” a title informs us, and writer-director Frank V. Ross uses this undropped shoe the same way his friend and fellow director Joe Swanberg (Hannah Takes the Stairs) uses sex—to inject some much-needed tension into a series of twentysomething bull sessions. Most of the story here involves the hero’s patient romantic pursuit of a cute delivery woman (Alexi Wasser). Like these prospective lovers, the movie is believable, likable, and pointedly unambitious—Ross hits the bull’s-eye, but not from much of a distance.
