Back to Burgundy

After spending several years abroad, a young man returns to his family’s vineyard in the title French region, rediscovers his love of the land as he assists his siblings with the annual harvest, then sticks around for several more months to help out on the farm. Director Cédric Klapisch elicits charming performances from the ensemble cast and incorporates lots of interesting details about the wine-making process. The familial relationships in his leisurely drama are so pleasant and uncomplicated that you might long for some of the acidity of his early feature Un Air de Famille (1996), but the new film marks an improvement over his last two, My Piece of the Pie (2011) and Chinese Puzzle (2013), in its relative lack of sentimentality. In English and subtitled French.
