Lulu Wilson remains a force to be reckoned with. After an unforgettable performance in 2016’s Ouija: Origin of Evil, Wilson has continued applying her powerhouse acting skills and a noted interest in genre work to dark projects, making Becky her perfect match for now. A gore-filled home invasion thriller, the movie follows Becky’s weekend at a lake house with her father (Joel McHale), his new girlfriend (Amanda Brugel), and the girlfriend’s son (Isaiah Rockcliffe). Things deteriorate when a group of convicts (led by Kevin James) arrives to wreak havoc. It’s easy to expect one of the adults in the room will assume the hero role—most would put their money on Brugel over McHale—but it’s Becky who channels her teen angst into exceedingly clever and increasingly cruel ways to fight back. Watching Wilson doing so from the start and with a bit of a smirk is wholly compelling.
