A first: Clint Eastwood the director takes a pass on the services of Clint Eastwood the star (1973 ). The story reflects the air of the times: a tired, cynical businessman (William Holden) comes back to life when he meets a bubbly flower child (Kay Lenz). The material isn’t distinguished, but Eastwood’s visual intelligence prevents it from slipping into the totally trite: his distanced images keep a lid on the overripe screenplay. With Roger C. Carmel and Shelley Morrison.
