If there were any more cops on the edge in this arrhythmic, ham-fisted crime drama, Brooklyn would need a bigger edge. Ethan Hawke is a hard-charging narc who’s desperate to move his kids and pregnant wife (Lily Taylor) out of their toxic bungalow; Richard Gere is an alcoholic patrolman battling embers of decency seven days before retirement; and Don Cheadle is an undercover agent whose identification with a drug lord (Wesley Snipes) is beginning to outweigh his loyalty to the badge. Eventually they all wind up within bullet range of one another, but it takes 140 minutes. Director Antoine Fuqua has come a long way down since Training Day. R.
