Imagine a Rock Hudson-Doris Day romance set in Iran and you’ll have a good idea of this frenetic battle-of-the-sexes comedy. Two architectural engineers—a glamorous cosmopolitan woman (Mahnaz Afshar) and a handsome traditional man (Mohammad Reza Golzar)—impulsively marry and soon begin tearing their home and each other apart. As divorce looms, they stumble upon a psychiatrist (Atila Pesiani) and the comedy broadens in scope, lampooning pop psychology and the inner child. The movie gently mocks patriarchal society, but the nearly relentless acrimony makes both husband and wife fairly unsympathic. Tahmineh Milani directed. In Farsi with subtitles. 102 min.
