Directed by Kunle Afolayan, this Nigerian drama takes on the all-too-familiar story of a young woman attempting to bring her sexual assaulter to justice. Moremi (Temi Otedola) is a graduate student at a university in Lagos, clearly brilliant and vivacious with soaring ambitions of someday working at the United Nations. Enter Professor Lucien N’Dyare (Jimmy Jean-Louis), a charismatic lecturer who at first appears helpful, but instead slowly works to take advantage of Moremi’s enthusiasm, ultimately assaulting her. The film vaults back and forth in time, layering the misery of Moremi’s appearance before a university tribunal with the sweetness of her innocence and enjoyment of the days prior to her assault, resulting in a muscular rendering of the dizzying he-said-she-said the film’s heroine is subjected to throughout. English, French, and Yoruba with subtitles.
