A seamstress in Berlin (Ursula Werner) has an extramarital affair with one of her customers (Horst Westphal) and oscillates between gnawing guilt and sweetest sexual fulfillment. We’ve all seen this sort of triangle in movies before, except that here the woman is 67, her hot lover is 76, and their sex scenes are as graphic—and, startlingly, as erotic—as one might expect for characters in their 20s. The quiet exploration of late sexuality is remarkable, but the characters’ seniority also makes the triangle doubly painful for the woman’s husband of 30 years (Horst Reberg), who suddenly faces the prospect not only of living alone but of dying that way as well. Andreas Dresen directed this 2008 German feature. In German with subtitles. 95 min.
