Disappointing road movie by Monte Hellman, the antiauteurist’s auteur. Warren Oates is a seedy traveling gambler, saddled with cockfighting as an ungainly existential metaphor. Hellman’s gimmick of making Oates a self-willed mute falls conspicuously flat. This is the sort of thing that gives B-movies a bad name. In any case, it’s not for the squeamish.
