Anne Makepeace directed this video about Edward S. Curtis, a society photographer who abandoned his career to document Native American culture in the early 20th century. After the screening, Makepeace, archaeologist Hartman Lomawaima, and Newberry Library curator Melissa Wolfe will compare Curtis’s work with that of Chicago painter Elbridge Ayer Burbank, whose depictions of Native American life are currently on display at the library.
