Shot at London’s Royal Albert Hall in November 2002, this excellent memorial concert for George Harrison by a large ensemble of his famous friends should satisfy most Beatle fanatics. Musical director Eric Clapton wisely follows the lead of Brian Wilson’s comeback tours with meticulous re-creations of the songs’ original recordings. The set list predictably leans toward Harrison’s grandiose spiritual anthems and away from his sour little rockers, though Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers deliver a snaky cover of “Taxman.” David Leland directed; with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne, Billy Preston, a handful of Monty Python players singing “The Lumberjack Song,” and Anoushka Shankar leading a 16-piece Indian orchestra (2003).
