Boston filmmaker Jason Fisher wrote, directed, and stars in this brainy independent short (2000, 35 min.) about a hip-hopper who sets up a table and chair in a public space and fields questions from passersby. The subjects range from the nature of language and the shape of the universe to Batman’s moral superiority over Superman, and the main character proves himself not only a philosopher but an expert rapper and ninja warrior. The film often strains to establish its street credibility (apparently one has to compensate for understanding chaos theory by ending every other sentence with “’n’ shit”), but its fast-paced mix of blackout comedy and cosmic inquiry is both entertaining and provocative.
