Not the equal of Stanley Donen’s parallel project, The Pajama Game, but a fine and vigorous film of the Broadway musical nonetheless (1958). It’s Faust again, with a middle-aged baseball fan (Russ Brown) swapping his soul to the devil (Ray Walston) for the right to become Tab Hunter and pitch for the New York Yankees. Gwen Verdon sings “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets,” and that is probably enough for one movie. 110 min.
