Bored and frustrated, a working-class Australian ties helium balloons to his lawn chair, hoping for a short, controlled flight. Things go wrong, and he floats away to a backwater town, where he starts a new life. Meanwhile, the social-climbing girlfriend he left behind uses his peculiar disappearance to get her 15 minutes of fame. Rhys Ifans gives his laid-back all, and Miranda Otto is pleasant as his new love interest—a small-town cop who also dreams of a more interesting life. This 2003 movie has an affable charm, but the script is paint by numbers. Directed by Jeff Balsmeyer. PG-13, 90 min.
