This 2004 documentary profiles two women stunt doubles: young Zoe Bell of New Zealand, who did all the ass kicking for Lucy Lawless on Xena: Warrior Princess, and Hollywood veteran Jeannie Epper, who doubled Lynda Carter on the old Wonder Woman TV show. There’s plenty of action, but director Amanda Micheli also explores the gender politics of a profession in which women take as much of a beating as men but compete for many fewer jobs and, like the actresses they double for, face decreasing career prospects as they get older. Bell’s story provides the narrative arc, as her Xena gig runs out and she eventually lands a plum assignment on Kill Bill, yet the more interesting woman is Epper, who comes from a highly respected family of stunt doubles and at 62 shows no signs of slowing. 82 min.
