Dumb and Dumber To

Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) are back, and dumb as/dumber than ever. Seeing the two fiftysomething stars in their idiot haircuts again is a little disconcerting, like watching your favorite old band on a desperate reunion tour, but this sequel to Dumb & Dumber (1994) maintains a respectable laugh quotient. (“Does your friend have Asperger’s?” “Probably—he doesn’t wipe very well.”) Rob Riggle adds to the fun as a special-ops assassin whose skintight outfits allow him to blend into the background, and Kathleen Turner contributes a winning plus-size parody of her old vamp roles. The audience I saw this with seemed to be having a pretty good time with it, though my favorite gag—Harry’s admission letter from Arizona State—seemed to fly over everyone’s heads. Or maybe it hit too close to home.
