A two-part program devoted to early films from the French production company Gaumont. The first part includes three three-minute “Photoscenes” (early examples of film sound using wax records played in sync with the images) attributed to Alice Guy and a documentary of the Deauville seashore filmed in the Trichrome color process. The second part features the work of director Jean Durand: short films made during the early teens, many starring music-hall and circus performers. David Drazin will provide piano accompaniment.
