Juan Carlos Buitron wrote, directed, and stars in this Chicago-made video, playing a college student whose parents are dead; he hopes to become a physician but can’t keep his 17-year-old brother out of trouble. While the video has its rough edges, Buitron creates a rising sense of dread around the younger brother as he cuts school, succumbs to drugs and gangs, and, despite his older brother’s objections, appeals to their drug-lord uncle for help. Halting and tentative, Buitron is convincing as a young man nearly overwhelmed by responsibilities, but his love interest seems more a trite fantasy than a real person. 82 min.
