This computer-animated baseball adventure espouses a shopworn moral about persevering against long odds, but there’s still plenty to recommend it, including memorable characters, solid storytelling, and accurate period detail. After Babe Ruth’s bat (given voice by Whoopi Goldberg) disappears from Yankee Stadium, a janitor is blamed and loses his job; his young son, who witnessed the bat’s theft by a slimy Chicago Cubs pitcher, runs away from home to set things right, accompanied by a wisecracking baseball (the voice of Rob Reiner). Directed by Colin Brady, Daniel St. Pierre, and a posthumously credited Christopher Reeve. G, 88 min.
