Chicagoan Christopher Hyatt has described his black-and-white digital video as “a George Romero movie aimed at a Maya Deren audience,” which reminds us that while horror films and experimental films lie at opposite ends of the commercial spectrum, they often share a common aesthetic. This gets off on the wrong foot with a goofy credit sequence, but its dreamlike study of a reclusive, morbidly obsessed graphic artist (Christopher Maag) does manage to evoke the German expressionists’ free-floating dread, an effect enhanced by Craig Lee’s ambient sound design. 60 min.
