Philippe Garrel is one of France’s best known experimentalists, though very little of his work has crossed the Atlantic. This 1984 film is said to be relatively conventional by Garrel’s standards, and concerns an aging Algerian war veteran whose sympathy for the partisans has made him the target of a right-wing group’s violent plans for revenge.
