In this low-budget thriller from the Philippines, a congressman’s chauffeur in Manila finds himself at the mercy of violent criminals after they kill his boss’s daughter and kidnap his own. Ron Morales takes advantage of the pulpy story to touch on such issues as child prostitution and organ trafficking, yet the film feels increasingly exploitative as it becomes more overtly political, illustrating various forms of injustice with blunt, sensationalistic imagery. The Manila locations are persuasively ugly (the most memorable setting is a vast garbage dump on the city’s outskirts), though you may not find that edifying. In Tagalog with subtitles.
