A young personal assistant (Greta Gerwig of Hannah Takes the Stairs) house-sitting for her vacationing boss finds herself sharing the place with his neurotic brother (Ben Stiller), who’s on the mend—or not—from a nervous breakdown. Can love be far behind? In a profile of Stiller for the New York Times, Dennis Lim pointed out that Roger Greenberg is only a concentrated version of the character the comedian plays in nearly every film—arrogant, dyspeptic, self-regarding. He’s a little too concentrated, however: when Gerwig goes for him, declaring that she sees his tender side, the development seems like a fond indulgence on the part of writer-director Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Margot at the Wedding). With Rhys Ifans, Mark Duplass, Chris Messina, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
