The first of these features is one of the pioneering naturalistic westerns of William S. Hart; here (1916) he’s an outlaw transformed by the love of a good woman. With Louise Glaum and a young John Gilbert; Hart directed. The Heart of Texas Ryan (1917), directed by E.A. Martin, is a western vehicle for the comic and acrobatic talents of Tom Mix. On the same program, Edwin S. Porter’s short western classic The Great Train Robbery (1903). David Drazin will provide piano accompaniment.
