John Cusack as a luckless prep schooler whose Caribbean holiday with his girlfriend and her family turns into a pratfalling nightmare. Pratfalls build character of course, and after a series of stumbling, bumbling humiliations, Cusack emerges as a junior Rambo savior, finally winning his girlfriend’s father’s respect (the improbable Andy Hardy prize at the end of this testing ordeal). No prizes, though, for Steve Lisberger’s stumbling, bumbling direction; without Disney computer animators to guide him (as they did in his previous Tron), Lisberger’s on his own, and the results are something that all the photogenic sunsets in the Caribbean (which Lisberger manages to capture here) can’t possibly redeem. With Wendy Gazelle, Robert Loggia, and Jerry Stiller.
