Video artist Bill Viola’s full-length videotape feature attempts to establish connections between human and nonhuman species through extended close-ups of animals, fish, and birds, which return the meditative attentions of the camera with a kind of fascinated regard. The mix of images and ambient sounds (bird calls, Indian chanting, natural silences, etc) is used to evoke a sense of cosmic continuity that Viola sees as embracing all of nature. The filmmaker will be present for this Chicago premiere screening. Presented in collaboration with the Center for New Television and the School of the Art Institute.
