An extremely bizarre film from 1933, which has something to do with a trans-Siberian race between Stuart Erwin and W.C. Fields, ending up at a Chinese hotel staffed by Franklin Pangborn, George Burns, and Gracie Allen, where a mysterious Chinese doctor is demonstrating his latest invention—television—by tuning in (live!) Baby Rose Marie, Rudy Vallee, Sterling Holloway, and Cab Calloway (singing the unforgettable “Reefer Man”), while Bela Lugosi waits to murder his estranged wife, Peggy Hopkins Joyce. Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A. Edward Sutherland directed.
