Anri Sala’s Intervista (1998, 28 min.) traces the efforts of an Albanian woman to decode a 20-year-old newsreel with missing sound in which her mother appeared as a leader of Albanian communist youth. In Irene Lusztig’s Reconstruction (2001, 90 min.) a Romanian-American tries to learn more about a 1959 bank heist in which his grandmother participated, an event reenacted on film after the culprits were apprehended.
