Documentary about a tribe of arctic Eskimos, the Inughuit, who live at the northernmost edge of the inhabited world—at Thule, on the west coast of Greenland. Isolated until the 1930s, the Inughuit have seen their traditional culture progressively unravel as the forces of Western Civ intrude. Swedish filmmakers Staffan and Ylva Julen, a brother and sister team, lived among the Inughuit for months, recording the tribe’s often hostile response to change and chronicling an austere way of life that seems headed for cultural extinction.
