A film from Rene Clair’s wartime Hollywood exile, with Dick Powell as a Gay 90s reporter who finds he’s getting his newspapers 24 hours before they come out. Clair was typecast for this kind of thick whimsy in America, though mostly it defeated him; his films from this period emerge as clubfooted combinations of sheer silliness and leaden social comment.
