This trio of French shorts provides a diverse range of perspectives on lesbian romance. In Love and Words (44 min.) director Sylvie Ballyot goes to Yemen to shoot a documentary and unexpectedly has an affair with her Egyptian translator, a dangerous development in a strict Muslim nation. Soft-focus cinematography and careful framing of the lover conceal her identity and lend a dreamlike aspect to the video, much of which is devoted to jourmalistic footage of local students opining on women and homosexuals. Ballyot’s fictional Like Father, Like Daughter (20 min.) stars Salome Stevenin as a woman whose alcoholic amputee father wants more than she’s prepared to give. Completing the program is The Creased Bed (13 min.), Myriam Donasis’ bittersweet take on a one-night stand. In French with subtitles.
