This Rene Clair film is one of the most imaginative of his early musicals (1931), thanks equally to the art direction of Lazare Meerson, the exuberance of Rene Lefevre in his first role, and Clair’s marvelous pacing and balletic skill in telling his story about a penniless painter who wins a million in a lottery but can’t retrieve his coat to get at the ticket.
