As the singing comedy duo Y’all, Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and James Dean Jay Byrd were folk music’s gay ambassadors, combining intricate harmonies and homosexual lyrics with shtick harking back to The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. For years they dreamed of landing their own TV show, a goal that held them together as an act as well as a couple, but the bond between them was strained to the breaking point when they attempted a menage a trois with a hippie they found camping in the California desert.
