Macaroni and Cheese

Three girlfriends raise hell and watch movies in this infectious French comedy (2012), shot guerilla-style during the 2011 edition of the Locarno film festival. Director Sophie Letourneur stars as a fictionalized version of herself alongside real-life collaborators Carole Le Page and Camile Genaud, and they draw on their offscreen rapport to bring genuine emotion to some dubious and occasionally asinine plot lines (in one, Letourneur is obsessed with finding and seducing actor Louis Garrel). This satirizes the film fest experience, with in-jokes sure to tickle world cinema enthusiasts, and Letourneur revels in the wild partying and shameless philandering that takes place after all the serious movie chatter dies down. In English and subtitled French.
