Outdoorsman-columnist Rock Hudson suddenly finds he has to live up to his reputation in this 1964 Howard Hawks comedy that’s funnier than it has any right to be. Hudson trying to fish (though he’s never fished in his life) in order to save his job is a sight worth the price of admission, though the sexual badinage between him and costar Paula Prentiss is a much more interesting Hawksian motif. Still, two hours is a long time over which to stretch a single joke.
