Produced by Lorne Michaels and heavily stocked with Saturday Night Live veterans, this heist comedy goofs on the real-life 1997 case in which an employee of the Loomis Fargo armored vehicle company made off with $17 million from a vault in Charlotte, North Carolina. Zach Galifianakis is the rube hero, seduced by former coworker Kristen Wiig, and Owen Wilson plays the career criminal behind it all. Director Jared Hess may never make another movie as funny or original as Napoleon Dynamite (2004), but he’s skilled at staging small-scale slapstick mishaps (in the early moments a character tries to throw a newspaper from a bicycle and manages only to knock himself to the sidewalk), and his penchant for ridiculous wigs is eagerly indulged by Galifianakis. The laughs diminish after the heist, when the hero is hiding in Mexico and Jason Sudeikis enters the picture as a hit man hired to take him out, but a brisk pace carries this over the finish line. With Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
